A Dog needs it’s Hero to be
“You”
Every day my dog looks at me with the look of amazement, I am the most special thing in his life, I am his hero! Living up to that kind of praise, if from a human is impossible, but from a dog is easy. I am sure my dog thinks I am the greatest hunter ever, every day twice a day my dog gets healthy, tasty, and fun raw food, but even when I fed him kibble he was happy.
You are your Dog’s Hero, Living up to your dog’s expectations is not difficult. It is a must!
Dogs need variety in their lives, they need to make new friends both human and dog, and sometimes even cat! They need to be challenged! Your dog depends on his Hero “YOU” to introduce him/her to new friends and new interests. Dogs have become instinctively drawn to human contact, my dog Teal’c would rather meet people than other dogs, but to keep him a good well rounded dog (and give me a rest) I ensure that he has time to run and play with other dogs on a regular basis, and to come with me when I go places, give him chances to make mistakes so I can correct him without anger or violence so he will learn.
Dogs are happiest when they know their position in life, and that position is one they are comfortable with. You as your dog’s Hero, must hold the position that you know best, and must be followed without question with no anger or violence from you or the dog. This can be best accomplished by sticking to the rules you set without any lapses. This can be be difficult and time consuming at first, the dog will learn! Both you and your Dog will be happier for the effort.
Dogs do not need the show of affection the way humans do, just walking your dog is a massive show of affection on your part, petting and touching the dog around the face or cuddling is not the show of affection your dog wants, play and calm discipline is. Sometimes a dog does want to be held or petted on the face but it is not often nor for a long time, thirty seconds at most.
Cuddles are usually short and then turn to play.
Often we look to our dogs for what we need, and that is usually love, but taking love from your dog is the wrong way, giving your dog what your dog needs will turn into your dog giving you more love than you can take, you just have to recognize that a dog shows affection of the touching kind in short bursts, the long shows of affection are lying at your feet, following you everywhere, or just the way the dog looks at you. Too often dogs become stressed by over affection of the human kind, this makes a dog NOT happy and this turns into behavior issues, no animal even humans perform well when stressed.

Show your dog Love in ways it will understand.
